RIDER'S COMMENTS:
– LOIC LARRIEU: »I am happy for the results that I made here in Finland. For me it was not easy, I am not used to compete on the race tracks like this. I have never been here before. The second race was better and I finished on the podium. It was actually my goal before the race. It is important to stay close to the top. I am satisfied with my Kawasaki bike and I think I will continue with it.«

TEAM CLS approved YOUTHSTREAM teams with 2 PILOT'S MX2 and 1 PILOT MX1.
The officially approved teams will have their permanent place in MX1 and MX2 World Championships as detailed on the list above. Privateer and Factory teams have the same rights and the duties and will be equally treated. They are able to change their riders until technical control on Friday before each Grand Prix, but they will need to previously inform Youthstream and naturally their riders need to have a valid FIM license, their Federation’s authorization and a completed entry form file. Youthstream supports all the teams who will enter young riders coming from a Continental Championship. The official teams will have time until the 31 October to inform Youthstream of the names of their riders in each class and they have until the 30th January 2009 to send all the official entry forms.
Mr. Giuseppe Luongo, Youthstream President said: “This is really a very important step for the professionalism of our sport to reinforce our teams. Before there were more than 40 teams who invaded the market and proposed their services to sponsors and made promises to riders and mechanics, and some of them did not always fill out their promises and created problems in the market. But surely amongst these teams there were some very good one and these are the ones which we agreed with today.
“The reason why we wanted to issue the list now is so that everybody openly knows who are the officially approved teams of the 2009 FIM MX1 and MX2 World Championships and these teams are the only who are able to negotiate with the riders, with sponsors, etc for this Championship. There will no longer be the big difference between the privateer and factory teams; our goal is to bring the value of the teams very similar between each one and everyone will be treated equally and benefit from the same services, TV coverage and media exposure provided by Youthstream at each Grand Prix.
“Youthstream was very careful to attend to the main requests and concerns of the teams which were:
- To have their participation to the Grand Prix events guaranteed
- More visibility on TV and media in general
- To go to the markets where they can find big sponsors
- To have infrastructures and enough number of passes on the circuit to welcome their sponsors well
- Create a programme more attractive for sponsors and public
“With these improvements we will reach all the teams’ desires and we want to thank the teams and manufacturers for supporting Youthstream in their continuous investment and development of the FIM Motocross World Championship.”
Youthstream is delighted with what was discussed and confirmed during the meeting between FIM and the Japanese manufacturers in Tokyo at the end of July (FIM was represented by the FIM President Mr. Vito Ippolito, FIM/CMS President Mr. Wolfgang Srb and FIM Sports Director Ignacio Verneda).
“Finally the FIM will maintain its will of Motocross being a global sport, i.e. World Championships having rounds in the largest number of continents outside Europe, with riders from all continents.’
We want to confirm what has been previously announced:
A true World Championship has to be covered worldwide not only by TV and media but also with events. It is fundamental to include events in the USA (the biggest motorcycle market worldwide), in Asia (the fastest growing motorcycle market worldwide), in Brazil (the biggest Latin American motorcycle market), in Australia (the biggest motorcycle market in the Pacific) and naturally in Europe and Africa where we are already present. A Championship run in Europe does not deserve the ‘World Championship’ title but only a continental title and a continental title does not attract the same interest from multi-international sponsors. Big sponsors have started entering into the FIM Motocross World Championship for the simple reason that we are starting to go worldwide and because we have millions of TV spectators and fans. Fans living in the other continents have the same right as a European; to be able to participate and watch the best Motocross in the world taking place on their continent.
Teams are becoming more and more professional and need to be guaranteed their participation to the Grand Prix, they need to be guaranteed to have television exposure and they need to have professional infrastructures. Youthstream does not want to only be based on the top teams but also on the semi-private teams because Motocross is and we want it to remain a very popular sport with a wide range of participation. Since Youthstream has managed the FIM Motocross World Championship the number of riders and teams participating in the MX1, MX2, MX3 and the EMX2 has doubled.
We need a wider exposure in order to gain more sponsors for teams and organizers and we need to increase the quality of the show at the Grand Prix to make it better value for money for the spectators, and therefore for the organizers and TV broadcasters. Our five improvement points for the future are:
- To improve the quality of the show at the Grand Prix to provide more interest for the public and therefore aid the organizer.
- To bring the Grand Prix events all over the world to gain more sponsors’ interest for everyone and to improve the value and credibility of the FIM Motocross World Championship.
- To support the semi-private teams with rules that guarantee their participation and TV exposure.
- To continuously improve the infrastructure at the Grand Prix to give more comfort to the teams but essentially to give easy and comfortable access to create interest from sponsors and a wider range of public.
- To continue improving the media and television coverage around the world for the benefit of everyone involved in the FIM Motocross World Championship.
- Youthstream will realize these improvements from next year:
A) Increase the number of overseas events, starting with USA and then with other important motorcycle markets.
B) 40 riders to enter and start in each class, MX1 and MX2.
In order to stabilize the MX1 and MX2, the official teams will have a guaranteed participation in the FIM Motocross World Championship with the number of riders for each class as listed above.
In MX1 and MX2, all 40 riders will take part in the GP (2 x free practice + 1 race of 20 min + 2 laps on Saturday for the starting positions on Sunday. Sunday will remain with 2 races of 35 minutes plus 2 laps for each class).
Youthstream will enter 38 riders per class (MX1 and MX2) and the FMNR will enter a maximum of 2 riders per class. Teams/manufacturers can propose to Youthstream a maximum of 24 riders in MX1 as well as in MX2. The remaining riders will be selected directly by Youthstream as wild card riders.
C) Youthstream will improve the TV production with a live camera on-board and also the world wide distribution in markets where we are not already present, with the recently announced deal with Freecaster, fans from all over the world can watch the live programme via internet for free.
D) Youthstream will install personalized manufacturer double floored pit-lane boxes. This will provide the official teams with a professional structure, very clean and visible to public and television where engineers and mechanics can freely work on the ground floor, and an upper floor for sponsors, VIP guests, etc so they can be part of the action without interfering with the teams’ work and to increase the value of the teams’ sponsors.
E) Youthstream will install personalized bike washing areas for each official team to allow mechanics to work cleanly and to not have to wait in line to wash the bikes and this will provide more visibility to the teams.
F) Youthstream will film and edit a four minute programme on each official team and these programmes will be inserted into the FIM Motocross World Championship highlight programmes of each Grand Prix.
G) Youthstream will supply to each official team the agreed number of permanent and one event passes for its staff and guests.
H) Youthstream will offer to the official teams for free of rights the possibility to install their own hospitality in the paddock for their team members and guests. Teams also have the opportunity to install a little hospitality on the upper floor of the pit lane for a maximum of 15 guests.
I) At the end of the season Youthstream will supply to each official team a 15 minute DVD of the best images for free of rights.
J) Youthstream will improve the sport and technical staff to guarantee better services in the paddock such as better performing and cleaner sanitary services, better security controls on the ‘hot-spots’ (such as pit-lane and waiting-zone) and professional blue flag marshals on the race track.
Youthstream will continue to develop and to professionalize the FIM Motocross World Championship without touching the soul of our sport. We will continue with two races per class, we want to have fans as near as possible to the show and close to riders, we want to keep the popular festive spirit and we want to increase the show and activities on the Saturday to permit fans to enjoy also this day and for this reason we have included the Women’s and Veterans’ first race and the MX1 and MX2 grid position races on the Saturdays’ programme. The secret of our success is finding the right balance between the professional, the amateur and the fans.
Dr. Wolfgang Srb, President of the Motocross Commission of the FIM, commented: "Youthstream´s visions for the future of the FIM Motocross World Championship are exciting. We at FIM share the clear commitment of bringing the best Off Road series in the world to as many continents as possible. Giuseppe Luongo and his staff work very hard on the growth of the Championship and so do the teams and the riders. Within the next three to five years I expect a number of 18 GP’s per year and very likely six of them will be outside of Europe."

Steven Frossard and Gregory Aranda stay with team CLS Kawasaki
Revelation of the MX2 season, Steven Frossard was since a few weeks one of the most demanding riders in the paddock! After a first ever GP podium in Germany, two heat podiums and several great results since mid-season, Steven has been contacted by numerous teams but after much heart searching he has decided to stay with the team CLS for the next two seasons
Steven finally announced his choice today, and confirmed that he has extended his contract for one more year – with an option for 2010 – with the team which offered him the opportunity to enter the GP’s last year. Runner-up in the 2006 European MX2 championship, Steven was unlucky last season as he got injured during the Italian Grand Prix but he never gave up to recover promptly.
Dominating the French Elite series earlier this season, Steven wasn’t successful during the first GP’s but clinched his first great result – fifth in the second moto – in Italy. Two weeks later in Great Britain he collected his first heat podium, and then finished six of the last eight rounds in the top five with a fantastic GP podium in Germany. Steven who turned twenty one two weeks ago will now be totally focused on the racing, for the last five GP’s – starting in Belgium this weekend – as well as the French series where he will defend his leadership during the final round in two weeks time in Lacapelle Marival. His teammate Gregory Aranda, curently in the top three of the French Elite MX1 Championship and in the top twenty of the MX2 World Championship also extended his agreement with team CLS for another season, and will race exclusively in theMX1 class.
Steven Frossard: « I took my decision one week ago, after long reflexions about the situation and the different offers that I got. I have a good experience of our Kawasaki bikes, and there are in the CLS team great people working with us, such as Jean Jacques Luisetti, Ben Contigliani, Jerome Salhi. I have full confidence in them, and I wanted to continue with them. I was just waiting to know which support will give us the factory, and when I got confirmation that Kawasaki Europe and Kawasaki Japan were helping us my choice was done. I think it’s better to stay where I am now, that’s in this team that I will have the best chances for next season. There are not so many team who offered such a great staff to their riders, for me that’s a guarantee and I know that with a hard winter training I will be stronger next season. We’ll have with us Jean Savoca, a man with a great experience who helped us a lot in South Africa. Now I’m focused on the upcoming GP’s, I will have in Lommel a new engine developed by Jerome Salhi and I expect to score some other top five results”
Gregory Aranda : « I didn’t signed yet my contract, but I gave my verbal agreement for next season to Jean Jacques Luisetti. I will race in the MX1 class, and we’ve decided that Lommel would be my last MX2 appearance; I will ride a 450 in Loket, in order to prepare 2009 during the last four events. I feel well in the CLS team, we have a great staff working in a good atmosphere and everyone gives his best to have success. With Steven we are friends, and we would like both to bring the team to the highest level”
Steve Guttridge (European Race Planning Manager, Kawasaki Europe): "We are very happy to have secured Steven for next year in the fiercely competitive MX2 class with Team CLS. We have watched him closely for the past few years and knew he had tremendous potential in terms of his focused attitude and ability on a bike. Injury fee, he has been able to show us that potential this year already in both French National and World MXGP Championships. The team has developed him well and this can continue now with our full support"
Jean Jacques Luisetti (manager of team CLS): “A dream came true, as never since I made the decision to create the team CLS I spent so much energy to convinced Steven to stay with us. I knew that he got great offers from other teams, and we had to give him all the guarantees before he made his decision. This was possible thanks to the Kawasaki family, who trust in Steven and us. I also want to thanks the family of Steven and Jean Savoca, who were a great support for us. Next year we’ll have a strong technical support from Kawasaki who will provide us factory parts, and Jerome Salhi who is our technical advisor will be fully involved in the team. Ben Contigliani our physical trainer will enter his third year with us, and we’re pleased to meet in the staff Jean Savoca, the famous and experimented osteopath who will help our riders. This entire package convinced Steven to stay with us, in a professional atmosphere, and now we are even more motivated than ever to give our best for him and his team-mates. Another great new is the fact that Gregory Aranda has also extended his contract for two more years, but in the MX1 class. He got great results in France with a 450, and thanks to Kawasaki and Youthstream he will make his GP debut in this class during the GP of Czech Republic. We have now to finalize our second MX2 rider, as we’ll have two riders in this class, and we hope that it will be Loic Larrieu who already show his potential this season.”

EMX2 – TWO LOICS WERE THE FASTEST AT THE DAY ONE IN SLOVAKIA
SVEREPEC (SLOVAKIA), 19th July 2008 – French rider Loic Larrieu (Kawasaki) conquered the pole position before the tomorrow's tenth event for the EMX2 European Championship in Slovakia.

Larrieu (Kawasaki) had a heavy crash a month ago at the French Championship's event. He got the serious shoulder injury. But he decided to try to finish the season. At the moment Larrieu is very successful. In the Championship Classification he is on the second position. With today's pole position the French rider announced the new good result.
The leader of the EMX2 European Championship Classification, Valentin Teillet (KTM) had a bad crash on the jump. He got the hit in the wrist. Teillet said: »I like the race track, the only thing is, that it is too short. The ground is very hard and similar to the our grounds in France. I crashed while I was trying to make a fast lap, after the crash I could not continue with the Qualifications. It is difficult to say anything for tomorrow, at the moment I have a pain in the wrist and I can not move it as I should.« He had the sixth best time.

NINTH AND TENTH ROUND OF THE MX2 EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP
Tough period for Loic Larrieu
After his heavy crash during the French Championship round of Iffendic one month ago, Loic Larrieu suffered from a serious right shoulder injury. He has decided to try to finish the season, and defend his second place in the MX2 European standings, even if each race is really difficult for him.
Two weeks ago in the Netherlands and again last week in Slovenia he confirmed his potential with two strong results in qualifications (first of his group in the Netherlands and second overall in Slovenia). Loic is able to post one fast lap without problems, but in the race after a few laps the pain is coming back and forced him to reduce his rhythm. Twelfth of the second heat in the Netherlands after he retired with a broken wheel in the first one, Loic got better results in Slovenia with a fifth and a twelfth positions. Always second in the standings, Loic is now sixty points far from the leader and has a small advantage (seven points) over the third rider in the championship. He will fly on Friday to the next round in the Slovak Republic, and then will fully appreciate the three weeks break of the series.
Loic Larrieu : ‘ Since Iffendic I have been unable to train in the week, so since one month now I just ride my 250 KXF during the races. I tried to ride a few days before Netherlands and even if my shoulder was painful I decided to go there as I had a chance to score points, and by respect for our partners. The track was the worst I could imagine for me, with hard sand, many bumps and jumps. Many riders had troubles with the wheels, I broke three during the weekend including one during the first heat .I was runner up for a long time behind Teillet, but the Dutch rider in third position took me off the track. When I came back in the race, the wheel was broken. The second race was more difficult on a worst track, I save a twelfth position. The track in Slovenia was better for me, but at both start I collided with other riders in the first uphill and was over the top twenty. My front brake was destroyed but I finished fifth of the first heat, then in the second one I was behind Tonus when I lost my front wheel and crashed. My shoulder came out in the crash, it was painful but I save another twelfth position. It’s a tough period for me, I have injections each week but not during the weekend. I want to thanks all the people who support me, including Olivier Robert from the French Federation who came to the last two rounds and strapped my shoulder. This weekend in the Slovak Republic my goal will be once more to score points and then we have a three weeks break. I hope to finish the series and defend my second place in the standings, then after the last round I will have time to go for surgery’
EMX2 and EMX-85 – THE TRIPLE MOTOCROSS EVENT IN MARKELO
MARKELO (NETHERLANDS), 4 JULY 2008 – The eighth event for the EMX2 European Championship will take place in Markelo, together with the FIM MX3 World Championship and EMX-85 European Championship.
The last event for the EMX2 European Championship was a month ago and riders are already impatient about the continuation of the racing. This weekend they will compete at the race track with the sandy ground. As distingushed from the other part of the Europe where these days is the real summer, in Netherlands the air temperatures are not very high.
For sure there will be higher temperatures on the race track. Already tomorrow, when riders will chasing best times in the Qualifying practice. The battle for the first position is starting to be more and more interesting, as the advantage of French rider Valentin Teillet (JM KTM Racing Team) is only six points. He was leading the Championship already for the 30 points, but some last races Teillet did not have a luck and Loic Larrieu (Kawasaki) came closer with his constant riding. All the riders had a month long break for the recovering before the second part of the season and already in Markelo we will see, who had the most successful preparations.

Loic Larrieu
There will also compete riders for EMX-85 European Championship. It will be their eighth event in the season and the second in Netherlands. Two home riders are at the top of the Championship Classification. Jeffrey Herlings is the leader with the big advantage, while Donny Bastemeijer is at the second position at the moment. At the home race track they will be the main favorites for the Sunday's victory.
