QUATORZIEME EPREUVE DU CHAMPIONNAT DU MONDE MX2 AU BENELUX

Il y a bien longtemps que le team CLS n’avait connu un aussi mauvais week-end, ne ramenant que quelques maigres points du déplacement de Lierop (Pays Bas) pour le GP du Benelux, avant dernière épreuve de la saison. Une course que Steven Frossard a terminé à l’hôpital de Eindhoven, après avoir été percuté par un autre pilote en début de seconde manche.
Le week-end n’avait pas bien débuté pour Steven, qui avait connu quelques soucis lors de la première journée ou il signait sa plus mauvaise qualification de l’année avec une douzième place. Mal placé sur la grille il n’allait jamais trouver le bon rythme au cours de la première manche, évoluant entre la seizième et la treizième place pour finalement se classer seizième d’une course disputée sur une piste vraiment atypique. Tracée en partie dans les sous bois et exclusivement composée de sable lourd formant de nombreuses et piégeuses vagues, Lierop reste l’une des pistes les plus exigeantes du Mondial qui ne peut se dompter du premier coup. Le premier tour de la seconde manche était à peine bouclé que Steven accrochait la roue arrière d’un autre pilote et chutait en sortie de virage, juste devant les stands. Roulant par terre au beau milieu du peloton, il allait se relever quand un autre pilote lancé à pleine vitesse ne pouvait l’éviter. Le choc fut si violent que la pédale de frein arrière de ce dernier se cassa pour se planter littéralement dans le dos de Steven, qui se blessait également à la jambe dans l’incident. Emmené à l’hôpital d’Eindhoven, il en sortait dans la soirée avec une plaie au dos et un plâtre à la jambe suite à une légère fissure du péroné qui va malheureusement le contraindre à louper la finale de Faenza et le Motocross des Nations.
Pour son premier roulage dans le sable au guidon d’une 450, Gregory Aranda décrochait la vingt-quatrième place sur la grille de départ, une position qu’il occupait en début de course avant de chuter dans un virage. Calant et perdant beaucoup de temps à repartir, il rentrera après cinq tours. Chutant au second départ, il ira cette fois au terme de la manche et sa pugnacité sera récompensée par le point de la vingtième place.
Gregory Aranda : ‘Quelque soit la cylindrée que l’on utilise, un tel circuit demande une préparation spécifique que nous n’avons pas vraiment eu le temps de faire avant d’arriver ici compte tenu de l’enchainement des courses. Samedi j’ai atteint un premier objectif en me qualifiant, mon second objectif était de marquer des points dans les deux manches. Dans la première un appui en sable s’est dérobé alors que je virais et je n’ai pu éviter la chute, perdant deux tours à redémarrer la moto. Après ma chute au second départ je suis reparti attardé, mais je suis allé au bout de la manche pour grignoter un point. J’en espère beaucoup plus le week-end prochain, sur le tracé ‘sudiste’ de Faenza en Italie’
Jean Jacques Luisetti : ‘Notre belle série de bons résultats a connu un coup d’arrêt à Lierop, et c’est bien très déçus que nous repartons des Pays Bas. Le week-end avait mal débuté pour Steven, qui a connu quelques soucis mécaniques au premier essai libre, puis a fait de très mauvais départs. En première manche il sauve quelques points, mais dès le début de la seconde manche il nous a fait très peur après sa chute. Par chance la blessure est moins grave que ce qu’on pouvait imaginer, il doit garder le plâtre une dizaine de jours et dans trois semaines il devrait être de nouveau en selle. Gregory a lui aussi connu un week-end difficile, il marque un point en seconde manche et nous savons ce qu’il nous reste à faire cet hiver pour progresser sur de tels terrains. C’est finalement dans le championnat d’Europe que nous avons obtenu le meilleur résultat, puisque Loic Larrieu reprend la seconde place du provisoire après s’être imposé à Roggenburg (Suisse), ou Loic Rombaut a remporté la seconde manche’

That’s a while that team CLS didn’t had such a bad weekend, only scoring a few points in Lierop (Netherlands) during the penultimate round of the World Championship. Unfortunately Steven Frossard ended his Sunday in the hospital of Eindhoven, as a rider hurt him during the second race of the day.
The weekend didn’t start well for Steven who had some troubles on Saturday where he posted his worst qualification result of the season with a twelfth position. Picking a bad position on the grid he never found the good rhythm during this opening race; starting sixteenth he moved to thirteenth but finally got a sixteenth position on this typical track where you need to practice a lot to get some strong results. The second start was also difficult for Steven, and before the end of the first lap he touched the back wheel of another rider and crashed just in front of the pit lane. He wasn’t injured seriously, but another rider came at full speed, didn’t saw him and hurt his back. It was a big collision, and the rear brake pedal of his rival stay incrusted in Steven’s back! The doctors took him to the local hospital where he had perfect treatment; they took off the pedal, and he left the hospital a few hours later with a plaster on his cracked fibula. He has to keep the plaster during several days, and will miss the last GP in Faenza and also the Motocross of Nations.
For his first attempt on a sandy track with a 450, Gregory Aranda qualified twenty-fourth, and came twenty-fourth in the opening lap of the first heat. He crashed in a corner after two laps, stalled the engine and retired later. He had another crash at the start of the second race, but went back on the track and finally scored the point of the twentieth position.
Gregory Aranda: ‘Whatever is the capacity of the bike you’re riding, you need to train a lot and work on the settings of the bike to ride well on a track like Lierop. On Saturday I was happy to qualify for my first attempt with a 450 in the sand, and my goal was to score points in both races. In the first one I crashed in a corner and then lost too much time to re-start the bike. Then after my crash at the second start I didn’t gave up and finally scored one point. I expect much more next week on a typical ‘southern’ layout in Italy’
Jean Jacques Luisetti: ‘Our strong series of good results was stopped in Lierop, and for sure we’re really disappointed. It was already not so good for Steven on Saturday, he had some technical problems during the practice sessions and then got a bad start in all the races. He saved a few points in the first heat, but at the beginning of the second one there was this incident. We were afraid but hopefully it’s not as worst as it seems; the fibula is not broken, just cracked and he will be able to take off the plaster after ten days. Gregory also had a difficult weekend, he got one point during the second heat and we know what we have to do next winter to be competitive on sandy tracks. Finally we got our best results in the MX2 European championship, as Loic Larrieu won the penultimate round in Roggenburg (Switzerland) to take back his second place in the standings, while Loic Rombaut won the second heat’
