Gregory Aranda revient dans la course au titre
Pour la première fois de l’année Gregory Aranda a marqué plus de points durant une épreuve du Championnat de France Elite que le leader de la catégorie MX1, revenant de ce fait à quatorze points de celui-ci avant la finale programmée à Iffendic. De son côté Steven Frossard sixième à Brou reste dans la course au titre MX2, tout se jouant dans neuf semaines en Bretagne lors de la finale.

Les courses MX2 ont une fois encore réservé leur lot de surprises et de rebondissements, aucun des trois prétendants au titre – Steven, Marvin Musquin et Gautier Paulin – n’ayant connu le week-end parfait. La première manche fut profitable à Steven, qui tout en signant le second temps chrono en course derrière Aubin et sa 450 s’est classé quatrième et premier pilote MX2 devant Paulin, alors que Musquin abandonnait suite à une chute. Une petite erreur au cours de la seconde manche couta probablement un autre succès à Steven, qui était dans le sillage de Paulin quand il glissa et perdit une poignée de secondes. Sixième de cette manche, Steven perdit toutes ses chances au départ de l’ultime manche quand il se retrouva pris dans une chute collective ; parmi les derniers à repartir après cet incident, Steven reviendra en dixième position. Sixième du jour et second pilote MX2, il est maintenant troisième au championnat à cinq points de Musquin et dix sept de Paulin, nouveau leader du provisoire. S’élançant de son côté dans le dernier paquet aux trois départs, Loic Rombaut n’a pu confirmer ses bons résultats de Plomion ; revenu à trois reprises dans le top quinze, Loic n’en a pas moins confirmé une bonne vitesse et une excellente condition physique même s’il ne rentre pas dans top dix.
Gregory réduit l’écart avec Vuillemin
Au guidon de sa Kawasaki CLS Greg a été l’un des principaux animateurs MX1 du week-end, étant le seul à venir rivaliser avec Aubin et Pichon tous deux invités de cette cinquième épreuve de la saison; troisième puis second des premières manches après d’excellentes courses, Greg a encore trouvé suffisamment d’énergie pour résister à Vuillemin durant l’ultime manche, en dépit de nombreuses et douloureuses crampes. Troisième homme du jour il est revenu à quatorze points de Vuillemin, alors qu’il comptait vingt six points de retard avant cette course.
Gregory Aranda: ‘C’est la première fois de ma carrière que je souffre autant de crampes ; entre les deux et troisièmes manches je ne pouvais même pas m’asseoir, et sitôt la seconde manche terminée j’ai bu quasiment d’un trait trois litres d’eau ! J’étais très fatigué lorsque je suis parti pour la troisième manche, mais j’ai tout donné pour résister à David et marquer pour la troisième fois de la journée plus de points que lui. Je lui reprends douze points, quatorze points nous séparent aujourd’hui mais tout reste possible avant la finale’
Steven Frossard: ‘J’ai fait une bonne qualification, avec une seconde place derrière Paulin sans jamais chercher à l’attaquer puisque cela m’offrait une bonne place sur la grille. Je suis parti septième en première manche, et je suis revenu quatrième. La seconde manche dut similaire, Paulin était un peu plus rapide et il n’a doublé après dix minutes de course ; j’avais de mauvaises traces et en cherchait d’autres, mais j’ai perdu le grip de l’avant et j’ai légèrement chuté. Je me suis retrouvé impliqué dans un accrochage au dernier départ, je suis revenu dixième et en essayent d’attaquer Tonus en fin de course je me suis fait une grosse frayeur ; j’ai tapé la tête dans le guidon, ce qui m’a incité à ne pas insister plus’
Loic Rombaut: ‘J’ai pris un bon départ en qualification, avant de perdre l’avant dans un virage et de chuter. Je suis revenu huitième, j’ai pris un bon départ dans les deux premières manches mais à chaque fois j’ai perdu un peu de temps en passant le troisième rapport et j’ai perdu un maximum de places. Treizième et quatorzième, j’ai enfin réussi un départ parfait en finale mais au premier virage je me suis retrouvé dans une chute collective ! Je suis revenu de la dernière à la quinzième place, les résultats ne sont pas exceptionnels mais je suis content de la façon dont j’ai roulé et de ma condition physique, puisque je n’ai pas souffert alors qu’il faisait très chaud à Brou’

For the first time this season Gregory Aranda scored more points during a French Championship round than the MX1 Elite leader, and will go to Iffendic for the final round of the series with serious chances to clinch the title. Steven Frossard sixth of the event is still a strong contender in the MX2 title’s battle, and both team mates have now to wait nine weeks before making the decision.

Once more the main interest came from the MX2 riders, as Marvin Musquin, Steven Frossard and Gautier Paulin battled during the three races for the leadership in this class. Steven was the strongest MX2 rider in the opening race; the CLS rider posted the second fastest lap time behind Aubin and its 450, and scored a fourth place ten seconds ahead of Paulin while Musquin retired after a crash. A mistake during the second race probably cost Steven another class win, as he was right behind Paulin when he slides and lost a couple of seconds. Sixth of the race, Steven will lost all his chances when he felt with other riders at the start of the last heat; among the last riders to enter the race after the start incident, Steven came back tenth. Sixth overall and second MX2 rider, Steven is now third in the standings, five points behind Musquin and seventeen behind new leader Gautier Paulin. Starting the three races among the last part of the pack Loic Rombaut wasn’t able to renew his great results of round four; coming back three times in the top fifteen Loic confirmed his good rhythm and shape, but missed top ten classifications.
Aranda regains points over Vuillemin
Aboard his CLS Kawasaki Greg was the main MX1 contender through the weekend for Aubin and Pichon, both ‘wild card’ for this race; third and then second of the first moto’s after strong performances Greg found enough energy to secure a fifth position during the last heat, despite numerous cramps in his body. Third rider of the day he is now fourteen points behind Vuillemin, instead of sixteen before this event.
Gregory Aranda: ‘It’s the first time in my career that I suffer from so many cramps; between the second and third race I was unable to seat down, and just after I finished the second race I drink three liters of water. I was tired when I went to the third and last heat, but I gave everything to stay in front of David and score for the third time this weekend more points than him. I scored twelve points more than him, and now the gap is reduced to fourteen units before the final round so everything is possible’
Steven Frossard: ‘I had a good qualifying race, I finished second behind Paulin but never tried to pass him as I had a good position on the grid for the races. I started the opening race in seventh, and then came back fourth. The second heat was similar, Paulin was a little faster and he passed me after ten minutes; I had bad lines and looked for others but I lost the front wheel and had a small crash. I was involved in a crash at the last start, I came back tenth and was right behind Tonus before the ultimate laps when I made a mistake; my head banged the handle bar, and then I secured my tenth position’
Loic Rombaut: ‘I got a good start in qualifying, but I lost the front wheel grip in a corner and crashed; then I came back eighth. In the first two heats I had a good jump of the grid, but I made a mistake when I changed my second gear and all the pack passed me. I finished thirteenth and fourteenth, then I had a perfect start in the last one but there was a big crash in the first corner and I was inside this crash! I came back from last to fifteenth, the results are not so good but I feel happy with my riding and my physical shape, it was really hot in Brou but I never felt tired’
