Gregory Aranda encore dauphin en Elite !
La seconde épreuve du championnat de France Elite de Motocross a vu une fois encore Gregory Aranda monter sur la seconde marche du podium, après avoir été l’un des principaux protagonistes du jour. Il a été le plus brillant des pilotes CLS, Steven Frossard ne pouvant défendre ses chances en raison de sa blessure au bras alors que Loic Rombaut révélait son vrai visage en animant les courses.
Comme à Sommières le week-end passé, c’est le soleil qui a accueilli l’Elite à Pernes les Fontaines, le sol devenant de plus en plus dur au fil des courses et la poussière finissant par faire son apparition en fin de journée. Peu de pilotes ont su éviter les chutes sur cette piste glissante et piégeuse, que ce soit aux départs ou en course. Bloqué derrière un accrochage collectif au premier virage, Greg entamait sa journée par une course poursuite qu’il allait achever en septième position, bras tétanisés à partir de la mi-course ; peu habitué à rouler sur des sols aussi durs en ce début de saison, il ne sera pas le seul à connaitre ce souci ! Ses autres départs seront bien meilleurs, même si à chaque fois c’est un certain Mickael Pichon qui lui subtilisait le holeshot ; qu’importe, Greg n’avait besoin que de deux tours en seconde manche et trois virages en troisième manche pour mener les débats. Son cavalier seul se terminait sur un net succès en seconde manche, mais une chute quasiment au ralenti allait lui couter la victoire dans l’ultime débat. Troisième, il perd une belle victoire et se contente donc de la seconde place sur l’ensemble de la journée. Un tel résultat, Steven aurait signé pour l’obtenir en arrivant à Pernes samedi. Terriblement gêné par son bras droit douloureux l’empêchant de tenir correctement son guidon, Steven allait tenter le tout pour le tout et se qualifiait brillamment avant de décrocher une très belle cinquième place en première manche. Mais il devra renoncer dans les autres courses, perdant le contrôle de sa moto en seconde manche – heureusement sans chuter – puis recevant une pierre sur sa blessure en troisième manche ! La vitesse est toujours là, la hargne aussi, et dès qu’il sera débarrassé de ses problèmes physiques Steven aura à cœur de rattraper le temps perdu. Pour Loïc Rombaut cette course de Pernes restera comme un immense soulagement, puisqu’il a pu prouver en seconde manche qu’il n’avait rien perdu de son potentiel ; sixième de la course après une première manche décevante, il confirmera ensuite avec une brillante remontée qu’il avait retrouvé se moyens après un début de saison un peu difficile. A confirmer le week-end prochain à Romagné dans d’autres conditions, puisque la bonne terre Bretonne et les ornières n’auront rien à voir avec les pistes de Sommières et Pernes !
Gregory Aranda: ‘Je suis un peu déçu de rater la victoire en MX1 une fois encore de si peu, mais je suis content de ma journée. Au premier départ je me suis retrouvé bloqué derrière une chute collective, si bien que je suis parti attardé ; j’ai rapidement remonté en septième position, puis j’ai eu quelques crampes aux bras et j’en suis resté sur cette place. La seconde manche a été meilleure, j’ai suivi Pichon qui avait fait le meilleur départ pendant quelques tours, étudiant ses trajectoires avant de la doubler et d’aller gagner la manche. J’étais en tête de la dernière manche quand j’ai fait une petite erreur, en glissant sur des pierres dans un virage très lent ; sur la fin de course je n’ai pas réussi à reprendre un bon rythme, et je termine troisième’
Loic Rombaut: ‘Après la première manche je n’étais pas très heureux, je n’ai jamais réussi à prendre un bon rythme et à doubler des rivaux sur le papier moins véloces que moi. Nous en avons discuté avec Ben Contigliani notre préparateur physique, et pour les autres manches je me suis échauffé plus longuement, ce qui a été payant. J’ai pris de meilleurs départs, et roulé vite d’entrée de jeu ; sixième de la seconde manche, je suis malheureusement parti en wheeling au dernier départ ! Je suis toutefois remonté rapidement parmi les douze premiers, sans pouvoir améliorer ensuite en raison d’une petite chute. Un tel week-end fait du bien au mental, car j’étais assez frustré des résultats des premières épreuves’
Steven Frossard: ‘Ce fut un week-end pénible pour moi, car mon bras blessé à Sommières m’a empêché de rouler à mon niveau. Lundi dernier à mon réveil mon bras avait enflé et me faisait mal, je n’ai pas pu rouler de la semaine. Ici le problème n’était pas la douleur, mais le fait que je ne pouvais serrer correctement le guidon. Dans la première manche le terrain était relativement meuble et j’ai pu limiter les dégâts avec une sixième place, puis la piste à séché et au fur et à mesure que le sol devenait dur j’avais de plus en plus de mal à contrôler la moto. Le pire est venu en dernière manche, quand j’ai reçu une pierre juste sur ma blessure ! Lundi je vais rencontrer le professeur Dufour pour des examens approfondis, et voir s’il faut envisager une ponction pour résorber l’hématome’
Jean Jacques Luisetti : ‘Un peu déçu de voir que Gregory rate la victoire cette fois encore de très peu, il va bien finir par la décrocher ! Ceci dit sa vitesse et sa technique nous laissent envisager l’avenir avec optimisme. Pour Steven c’est frustrant de voir qu’il ne peut se battre à son niveau du fait de cette blessure au bras, qui dimanche dernier paraissait moins grave qu’elle ne semble l’être finalement. Samedi je pensais que Steven ne pourrait pas rouler, mais il a voulu tenter le coup et sauver quelques points, bravo à lui ! Pour Loïc c’est un soulagement car il a enfin pu rouler comme il le fait à l’entraînement ; le déclic semble s’être produit, c’est de bon augure pour la suite de la saison’

Another second place for Greg Aranda
Gregory Aranda was again the best rider from team CLS, this weekend during the second round of the French Elite Championship. Runner up in the MX1 class, Greg is currently second in the standings not far from the leader. Injured last week in Sommières Steven Frossard was unable to defend his chances, while Loic Rombaut did his best performance so far.
With three rounds of the French Elite Championship organized prior to the opening GP of the FIM World Championship in two weeks, the French riders have had a great opportunity to prepare for the coming season in the best way. After Sommières last week, another well-known southern track welcomed the best national riders; Pernes les Fontaines, home of seventeen GPs and many International Motocross meetings in the past. The competitors had to deal with a typically chalky hard surface that was pretty soft at first due to intense watering but then became harder and harder.
Runner up in the MX1 qualifying race on Saturday, Greg Aranda was stopped by a pile-up in the first corner and had a tough race to come back from nearly last to seventh. Learning some lines from Mickael Pichon early in the second heat he dominated the race, and was on his way to another win in the last moto when he lost grip on loose stones! Another small crash cost him the first place of the last race and the overall result, as he finished only three points behind Vuillemin. Injured last week during the final race in Sommières, Steven Frossard was unable to ride at his usual level and finished the opening race in 5th before retiring in the other motos. Third rider of Team CLS involved in the event, Loic Rombaut, enjoyed his best event so far, collecting a strong 6th position in the second heat. 17th in the opening race he then recorded 11th place in the last moto for another positive showing.
The French Elite will now move to Brittany for the third race of the season, next weekend in Romagné.
Gregory Aranda: ‘I’m frustrated to miss the MX1 win by just a few points, especially as I lost them after my crash during the last race. There was a pile-up at the start of the first mot; I didn’t crash but I was slowed by the crash and lost too much time. I then came back quickly to 7th position and couldn’t improve on this due to arm pump; it’s the first time that we have raced on such a hard layout. The second moto was better; I followed Pichon for a few laps and looked at his lines, and then I passed him for the win. In the third heat I was leading when I crashed in a small corner, my front wheel slid on some stones and then I was unable to find the good rhythm.’
Loic Rombaut: ‘I wasn’t so happy after the first heat, as I never found a good rhythm and had trouble to pass some rivals. Ben Contigliani, our physical trainer, asked me to do more training before the second race and it was much better; I took better start and collected sixth position. I did a wheelie at the start of the last moto but despite this problem I was back in the top twelve within a few laps. That’s good for the confidence and for the team because at the first events of the season I didn’t get such great results.’
Steven Frossard: ‘It was a tough weekend for me as I had trouble with my arm after the crash sustained last weekend in Sommières. I couldn’t train during the week and here I had difficulty to control the bike. I was unable to hold my handlebar like normal. I could finish in the top five of the first race as the track was quite soft, but then it became harder and worse for me. I was afraid to crash as I had no power in my right arm, so I retired in the second moto and during the last heat a stone whacked my arm. I will have further medical checks on Monday with professor Dufour in Aix en Provence, I want to be fit and ready in two weeks time for the opening GP in Italy.’
Jean Jacques Luisetti: ‘We’re a little bit disappointed as Greg lost the MX1 win for a couple of points, but we’re sure he will get it soon! He has the speed and the technical style to get some great results this year. It’s frustrating for Steven to be there unable to ride as usual, his injury is in fact more serious that we could think last week but it’s just a question of time. I didn’t thought he could race here, finally he collected some point in the first race and proved once more that he never gave up. Concerning Loïc it’s encouraging to see him riding as he does when he trains with Steven and Greg, it seems that something happens here in Pernes’
