Premier succès partiel pour Steven
Après deux week-ends sur les ‘motodromes’ du Sud de la France, le championnat Elite a fait étape dans les vertes prairies Bretonnes, sous le beau soleil de Romagne. Les conditions de course étaient bien différentes de celles de Sommières ou Pernes, et ont permis à Steven Frossard toujours convalescent de signer son premier succès de l’année.
Il faisait beau ce week-end en Bretagne, et les organisateurs de Romagné rodés aux épreuves de championnat avaient bien préparé leur piste pour accueillir l’Elite française. La bonne terre bien retournée a offert un superbe terrain de jeu aux pilotes, leur permettant de peaufiner leur préparation à une semaine du GP d’Italie.
Une fois encore c’est Gregory Aranda qui apporte à l’équipe son meilleur résultat, en montant pour la troisième fois consécutive sur la seconde marche du podium MX1. Blessé à un genou samedi lors de la manche qualificative Greg a serré les dents en course, mais deux mauvais départs l’ont empêché de faire mieux que quatrième et sixième des deux premières manches. Mieux parti dans l’ultime course du jour, il achèvera sa journée sur une seconde place, terminant second de la journée et occupant la…seconde place du championnat ! Se ressentant toujours de sa blessure au bras qui l’empêche de s’entraîner normalement, Steven Frossard a signé un joli succès en première manche, le premier de l’année. Un départ raté en seconde manche, et une piste se défonçant de plus en plus ne l’ont pas aidé compte tenu de son handicap momentané, mais avec une onzième puis une cinquième place Steven limite les dégâts et monte sur le podium du jour. De son côté Loic Rombaut a prouvé en seconde manche, avec un bon départ, qu’il continuait à monter en puissance ; septième de cette manche, treizième et onzième des deux autres, il pointe désormais à la huitième place du championnat.
Gregory Aranda : ‘Samedi alors que j’étais en tête de la course qualificative je me suis légèrement déconcentré en fin de course, et mon pied a heurté le sol assez violemment entraînant un étirement des ligaments du genou. Cela m’a gêné pour la suite du week-end, mais mon plus gros problème à Romagné fut de prendre de mauvais départs dans les deux premières manches. En première manche je me suis une nouvelle fois retrouvé avec des crampes aux bras après 15 minutes de course, et entre les manches on a fait un test avec mon mécanicien en remontant un embrayage de série. Du coup mon problème de bras a disparu pour les deux autres manches, je me classe sixième de la seconde avant de faire ma meilleure course de la journée en troisième manche. Je suis parti cinquième et suis revenu rapidement second derrière Vuillemin, mais même en attaquant jusqu’au bout je n’ai pu résorber mon retard. Ce fut une bonne manche pour moi, j’ai roulé à un rythme élevé sans jamais ressentir de fatigue, ce qui encourageant avant le premier GP de la saison.’
Steven Frossard : ‘Cela fait du bien de gagner enfin une manche, à la régulière et sans soucis majeur. J’ai pris un excellent premier départ et j’ai pu prendre le meilleur sur Tonus pour m’isoler un peu en tête, ce qui m’a permis de résister au forcing de Vuillemin en fin de course. Je me suis retrouvé très loin au second départ et cette fois j’ai souffert de mon bras touché dans la chute à Sommières. Onzième ce n’est pas un résultat satisfaisant, en dernière manche cela a été meilleur même si mon bras m’a gêné, je termine cinquième et monte sur le podium de la journée en MX2. Le point positif est que ma douleur au bras s’estompe au fil des semaines, et j’espère que le week-end prochain cela ne me gênera plus du tout’
Loic Rombaut : ‘Samedi j’ai fait une bonne qualification en prenant la cinquième place après un très bon départ, même si je me suis fait doubler par Steven, Gautier Paulin et Marvin Musquin qui étaient plus rapides que moi. Ma première manche fut moyenne, en cours de manche j’ai eu un petit passage à vide et à l’arrivée je n’étais pas très content de ma course. La seconde fut bien meilleure, je fais une bonne sortie de grille et durant toute la manche je me suis bien battu pour me classer septième. En raison d’un petit problème au pré parc j’ai du partir avec ma seconde moto, les suspensions étaient un peu souples et nous avons réglé cela pour la dernière manche. Je patine en sortie de grille et part très mal, je fais quelques erreurs dans ma remontée que je conclue sur une onzième place. Je sens que cela va de mieux en mieux au fil des courses, et c’est encouragent pour les week-ends à venir’
Jean Jacques Luisetti : ‘Le bilan reste mitigé et en dedans de nos attentes, car notre but est de décrocher des succès et des titres. En gagnant sa première manche de l’année et en signant le meilleur temps en course samedi comme dimanche, Steven confirme sa vélocité et dès que son problème de bras sera résolu on va le retrouver aux avant postes. C’est en bonne voie, et cela devrait être bon pour l’ouverture du mondial la semaine prochaine. Après Steven c’est Gregory qui s’est fait mal samedi, au genou cette fois mais cela ne l’a pas empêché de rouler dimanche et il conforte sa seconde place au championnat. Reste Loic qui doit prendre de meilleurs départs et trouver plus rapidement le bon rythme, on sent qu’il progresse mais le début des GP est imminent !’

First heat win for Steven Frossard
After Sommières and Pernes, two Southern fast hard tracks, the series moves to another surface in Romagné. On a natural and soft layout the riders found new racing conditions, and most of them enjoyed this sunny weekend; always suffering from his arm injury, Steven Frossard collected in Brittany his first heat win of the season.
Second of the event and the championship, Gregory Aranda improved his results during the weekend and was once more the best representative of team CLS. Winner of the qualifying race, Greg injured his knee in a rut but didn’t suffered too much during the races; in fact he just missed two decent starts to finish better than fourth and sixth, and proved in the last battle of the day that he is with Vuillemin the fastest MX1 rider of the pack. Second of the last race with good lap times during the entire twenty minutes plus two laps period, he finished second of the MX1 classification and is currently…second of the Championship.
Reigning champion Steven Frossard had a mixed weekend in Romagné, always suffering from his arm injury which prevented him for training as usual between the races. Second in qualifications Steven had a great start and leads the entire opening race, pushing to the limit until the checkered flag as Vuillemin was closing the gap in the last minutes of racing. He then had to recover from his worst start of the season, collecting an eleventh position; he ended the event with a fifth place, but once more complains from his arm injury on a rougher and demanding track. Loic Rombaut was consistent during the weekend, and got his best results in the qualifying race – fifth – and the second moto – seventh – where he got some good starts. He had some troubles to find a good rhythm in the opening heat, but came back from far to eleventh in the last one confirmed that he is improving each week.
Gregory Aranda : ‘Saturday I was leading the qualifying race easily when I lost my concentration, and twisted my knee. It was painful for the rest of the week-end, but my main problem in Romagné came from my starts in the first races. I was coming back in the first one when I had pumped arms; between the races I asked my mechanic to change the clutch, we put a production one and then I had no more problems with the arms. I came back sixth in the second heat and got my best start in the last one; I came back from fifth to second behind David, but it was impossible to close the gap. But I’m happy with this race, I pushed during twenty five minutes and always felt comfortable’
Steven Frossard : ‘That’s a good feeling to win again a race, without any major problem. I got a great start in the first race and passed Tonus for the lead, then I made a small gap and that was enough to control Vuillemin who came back strongly. My second start was much worst, and during the race I felt again pain in my arm injured during my crash in Sommières. Eleventh was not a good result, then the last race was better with a fifth position but once more I had pain in my arm. I’m on the MX2 podium of the day for the first time this season, I posted the fastest lap time on Saturday and again on Sunday but the most important for me is that I have less pain in my arm through the weekends and I hope that in Italy next week it will just be a bad memory’
Loic Rombaut : ‘I had a good qualifying race on Saturday, I started second to finish fifth as Steven, Gautier Paulin and Marvin Musquin were faster than I and passed me. My first race was average, in the middle of the race I lost my rhythm and I was not really happy with my performance. The second one was much better; I had a good jump of the grid and did a strong race to collect a seventh position. We had a small problem with the bike in the waiting zone and I raced with my second KXF, the suspension settings were different. We did some changes for the last heat and the feeling was better, but I missed a good start. I did a few mistakes but came back eleventh, that’s encouraging as I felt more and more comfortable on the bike’
Jean Jacques Luisetti: ‘We were expecting better results this weekend, as our goal is to win as many races and titles as possible. Steven won his first race this season and posted twice the best lap time on Saturday and Sunday, he confirmed how fast he is when he has no physical troubles and for sure he will be strong again as soon as he will have recover. He feels better each week, and we hope that he will be OK next week in Italy. Gregory got injured on Saturday, he had pain to his knee but that doesn’t bother him too much for the races and he got another second position. Loic needs to have better starts, and must be faster in the first part of the race; we know that he is improving each week, but the GP’s start soon!’
