Gregory Aranda dauphin en Elite
Gregory Aranda a été l’un des grands animateurs de l’épreuve d’ouverture du championnat de France Elite, s’imposant dans la première manche puis montant à deux reprises sur le podium pour s’installer à la seconde place du championnat. Après deux bonnes manches Steven Frossard s’est malheureusement retiré dans l’ultime course de la journée, ratant du même coup le podium tandis que Loic Rombaut termine parmi les dix premiers du championnat en dépit de mauvais départs.
C’est à Sommières qu’a été donné le coup d’envoi du championnat, comme l’an dernier. Mais cette fois le soleil a été de la partie, et après une première journée poussiéreuse c’est sur une piste très bien préparée que se sont disputées les trois manches du jour. Sommières étrennait la nouvelle formule du championnat Elite, avec des courses qualificatives le samedi – en lieu et place des séances chronométrées – et trois manches regroupant les meilleurs pilotes MX1 et MX2 le dimanche.
Licencié à Sommières et connaissant très bien ce circuit, Gregory Aranda a été constamment aux avant postes tout au long du week-end au guidon de sa 450. Second de sa manche qualificative samedi, Greg allait signer le meilleur départ en première manche et faisait un cavalier seul ! Parti en seconde manche dans la roue de son équipier Steven Frossard, Greg s’emparait du commandement avant la fin du premier tour et menait longtemps la danse avant que Vuillemin ne prenne l’avantage en fin de course. Premier puis second, Greg allait monter sur la troisième marche du podium dans la dernière course ; une nouvelle fois bien parti mais commettant une erreur dans le premier tour, Greg allait revenir au troisième rang, terminant second de la journée pour un petit point. Souffrant face aux puissantes 450 avec lesquelles ils se trouvent désormais mélangés, les pilotes 250 ont néanmoins pu tirer leur épingle du jeu. Auteur d’un premier départ très moyen mais bien revenu en quatrième position, Steven Frossard allait signer le ‘holeshot’ en seconde manche ; cédant rapidement la tête de la course à Gregory, Steven allait tenir le rythme des meilleures 450, ne cédant que face aux attaques de Vuillemin pour obtenir une flatteuse troisième place. En lutte pour la troisième place dans l’ultime manche, Steven allait partir à la faute et percutait les barrières de bord de piste ; perdant trop de temps à redémarrer il renonçait, quittant Sommières à la cinquième place du championnat et avec le meilleur chrono de la journée. Contrairement à Steven c’est en première manche que Loic Rombaut fera son meilleur départ, livrant une course régulière pour se classer dixième. Enfermé aux deux autres départs il ratera les points en seconde manche après s’être légèrement blessé au talon sur une réception de saut, mais parviendra a revenir au dix septième rang du dernier débat. Le team va encore évoluer près de sa base Sudiste le week-end prochain, puisque la seconde épreuve se disputera à Pernes les Fontaines (Vaucluse).
Gregory Aranda: ‘Mon objectif ce week-end était de réussir de bons départs et me battre pour la victoire, et je suis satisfait de mes résultats. J’ai signé deux ‘holeshot’ sur trois départs, ratant un peu le troisième en raison de crampes à la main qui m’ont gêné au moment de freiner ! J’ai mis trois tours pour récupérer, mais il était déjà trop tard pour revenir sur Vuillemin et Musquin. Samedi j’avais souffert des bras mais aujourd’hui cela allait nettement mieux, et avec trois podiums je suis content de mon week-end’
Steven Frossard: ‘J’ai raté mon premier départ mais j’ai réussi à revenir en quatrième position, avant que Vuillemin ne me double en fin de course. Mon second départ fut bien meilleur, j’ai pu me faufiler dans le premier virage pour prendre la tête de la course ; j’ai laissé passer Gregory pour prendre sa roue, on a tenu un bon rythme et même si Vuillemin est passé je suis content de ma manche. En troisième manche je pars sept-hui, je reviens dans le groupe de tête jusqu’à ce que la moto glisse dans la ligne droite et raccroche brutalement. Je me suis retrouvé dans les barrières, un peu déçu de ne pas finir cette manche mais globalement satisfait du rythme car je n’ai pas l’habitude de rouler sur ce type de terrain’
Loic Rombaut: ‘ En première manche je suis bien parti puisque je me suis retrouvé septième, ensuite il a fallu rivaliser avec les 450 et je termine dixième. Les autres départs ne furent pas aussi bons, je me suis retrouvé enfermé à chaque fois et en seconde manche je n’ai pas réussi à revenir dans les points après m’être fait mal au talon. Dix septième en dernière manche je suis neuvième du championnat, globalement je suis déçu du résultat mais j’ai eu de meilleures sensations qu’il y a deux semaines à Valence’
Jean Jacques Luisetti: ‘ Nous sommes très contents du weekend, un peu terni par la chute sans gravité de Steven qui aurait pu jouer la victoire au général en MX2. Il signe le meilleur temps de la journée toutes catégories confondues, réalise deux bons départs, a un bon feeling et une très bonne vitesse de pointe. Greg a fait un superbe chrono aux essais, il a lui aussi une excellente vitesse de pointe et dès qu’il aura réglé ses problèmes de bras il va surprendre du monde et sans doute revoir ses objectifs à la hausse. Loic manque encore un peu de vitesse, il faut qu’il réagisse rapidement en espérant que sa petite blessure au talon ne le gêne pas. Cette troisième course de l’année a par ailleurs permis de constater que chacun avait bien trouvé sa place au sein du team, et je voudrais profiter de l’occasion pour remercier Patrick Geladé qui a mis à notre disposition du matériel technique à même de faciliter la vie des mécaniciens’

Gregory Aranda was one of the main contenders during the opening round of the French MX1 Championship, winning the first heat and then scoring two podium results to secure a second position overall. Team mate Steven Frossard missed the MX2 podium as he retired during the last heat, while Loic Rombaut entered the top ten despite two bad start.
The French Elite Championship kicked off in Sommières, one of the main southern French tracks which already met the opening round of the series last year. After a dusty and windy qualifying program on Saturday, the club prepared a perfect layout for the sunny races and the new program of the series. Instead of the traditional schedule of two races per class and one super final, the French Federation introduced some novelties with two qualifying races on Saturday instead of timed practice sessions. The best sixteen MX2 and fourteen MX1 riders qualified for the Sunday program, mixing both classes during three heats of twenty minutes and two laps.
Racing on his home track, Gregory Aranda rode strong during the entire weekend; second of the qualifying race, he dominates the opening heat and then battled twice for the win. Leading most of the second period he didn’t resist to Vuillemin’s come back, but secured the second place and later a third position just missing the overall win by a single point. With the new program of the French series the MX2 riders have now a tough program, as they are now mixed with the powerful 450. Steven Frossard missed a good start in the opening race and came back fourth, then got the holeshot of the second heat and did his best performance of the weekend, scoring a third position right behind the 450 of Vuillemin and Aranda. Also involved in the MX2 category, Loic Rombaut had his best start in the opening race; tenth overall he then had to recover from poor start in the following races. He injured his foot on a jump, and later claimed more points with a seventeenth position in the final one.
Gregory Aranda: ‘My goal when I came here was to get some great starts and do convincing races, and I’m pretty satisfied with my results. I got two holeshot, just missing it in the last race as I couldn’t hold the front brake due to some cramps in my arms! It took me three laps to recover in this third moto but it was impossible to come back over Vuillemin and Musquin. On Saturday I struggled with my arms but today was much better, and I had a good weekend with a win, a second and a third place’
Steven Frossard: ‘I had a bad start in the opening race but came back fourth, and couldn’t resist to Vuillemin assaults in the last laps. My second start was much better as I found good lines in the first corner to holeshot the pack, but then I let Gregory leading the race and took his rhythm; I was second but once more Vuillemin passed me aboard his 450, third was a good result for me. My last start was average, I was seventh and came back third to battle with Boissière. Unfortunately I lost the control of my bike in a fast section and I crashed in the barriers, losing too much time to restart my engine. I’m satisfied with my rhythm, the track was hard and fast and I didn’t felt so comfortable on the track’
Loic Rombaut: ‘I had my best start in the opening race, I was seventh and then had some problems to hold the powerful 450 during twenty five minutes, I scored a tenth position. The second start was poor, I was at the inside and there was no place to go in the first corner! Then I had a good jump at the last one, but the 450 closed the way again in the first corner and I came back from last to seventeenth. I felt more comfortable than two weeks ago in Valence, I had a better feeling and except during the second race I had a good rhythm’
Jean Jacques Luisetti: ‘We’re happy with the results of the weekend, even if it could have been better without the crash of Steven, who probably lost the overall win in the MX2 class. He posted the fastest race lap from all classes, got two great start, had a good feeling and a great speed so that’s all positive. Greg was the fastest during the practice session, got three good starts and for sure he will have higher goals as soon as he will not have any more pumped arms. Loic needs to be faster in action, let’s hope that he will react in the next races and that he will not suffer from his foot injury. This third race was another good test for the team members, and I want to thanks Patrick Geladé who provides us some technical material for the rest of the season’
