Second podium de la saison pour Steven
Second du GP de Grande Bretagne disputé sous un beau soleil, Steven Frossard s’est emparé de la cinquième place du championnat pendant que Gregory Aranda, l’un des plus jeunes pilotes engagés dans le Mondial MX1, terminait une nouvelle fois dans le top dix.
Troisième de la manche qualificative MX2 samedi, Steven décrochait une bonne place sur la grille de départ pour le dimanche. Parti dans le groupe de tête en première manche, il lui fallut toutefois attendre la mi-course pour être en mesure d’attaquer Paulin, second à distance de Musquin solide leader. Le duel entre les deux Kawasaki fut intense et se termina à l’avantage du pilote CLS, après que Paulin soit allé à la faute. En seconde manche Steven réussit l’un de ses meilleurs départs de l’année, se positionnant d’entrée de jeu en seconde place derrière Gonçalves. Ne parvenant à trouver l’ouverture pour doubler le Portugais il finissait par prendre un faux rythme, ce dont profitait Musquin pour le doubler dans le dernier quart d’heure. Second et troisième, Steven monte sur la seconde marche du podium derrière Musquin et passe à la cinquième place du mondial. Ne réussissant aucun de ses départs Loic Rombaut va passer ses deux manches à se dépêtrer du peloton, revenant à deux reprises en vingtième position et augmentant son capital points de deux unités.
Cinquième de la qualif’ MX1 Gregory Aranda eut fort à faire en première manche ; seulement dix septième au départ, Greg fera une course de toute beauté en allant accrocher la neuvième place. Son second départ fut bien meilleur, et il évolua longtemps en septième position avant de baisser de cadence en fin de course, favorisant ainsi le retour de Leok et Cairoli. Deux fois neuvième et neuvième du GP, Greg est maintenant quinzième du championnat.
Steven Frossard : « Je ne suis pas trop mal parti en première manche, mais j’ai perdu pas mal de temps à doubler et quand je suis arrivé second Marvin était loin. J’ai cravaché pour revenir, j’ai réduit l’écart mais çà n’a pas suffit. En seconde manche je suis revenu assez fort sur Gonçalves, j’espérais lui mettre un coup au moral mais ca n’a pas fonctionné comme je voulais car je n’ai pas trouvé l’ouverture. J’ai pris un faux rythme derrière lui, finalement j’ai fait une erreur et Marvin en a profité pour me doubler. Je fais une bonne opération, mais il n’y a que la première place qui m’intéresse et je me languis de décrocher mon premier succès en GP »
Loic Rombaut : « Je prends un point dans chaque manche, mais avec une vingt quatrième place en qualification même si tu pars bien tu ne peux pas espérer grand-chose ! J’ai changé de moto pour la séance pré qualificative, ou j’ai signé un chrono moyen si bien que je n’étais pas trop bien place sur la grille. En première manche je suis longtemps resté dix huitième, j’étais au contact d’un groupe de trois quand je suis allé à la faute. Au second départ je sors mal, j’ai roulé de concert avec Larrieu et nous terminons dix neuvième et vingtième. »
Gregory Aranda : « J’avais un bon rythme en première manche avec le troisième temps en course, mais en partant dix huitième il était difficile d’espérer mieux que ce que j’ai fait. En seconde manche j’ai réussi un meilleur départ, je tenais bien la septième place jusqu’à ce que je faiblisse un peu dans les dix dernières minutes et que Cairoli et Leok me passent. Globalement cela restera un bon week-end, hier le terrain était parfait et j’ai pu passer un saut que personne n’a tenté à part moi mais aujourd’hui ils l’avaient modifié. Dommage que le circuit soit devenu mono trajectoire du fait de l’arrosage, car samedi au premier essai il était très agréable. »
Jean Jacques Luisetti : « Nous sommes bien sûr très content du podium de Steven, qui enchaine les bons résultats depuis maintenant trois GP. On pensait qu’il aurait pu doubler Goncalves en seconde manche mais il a eu un petit coup de fatigue passager dont a profité Musquin pour passer. Il a fait deux belles courses, on va continuer à travailler la technique et le physique pour monter sur d’autres podiums, gagner un GP et faire un podium au championnat. Greg termine deux fois dans les dix, avec de bons chronos en course, il est sur une trajectoire ascendante alors que Loic marque un point dans chaque manche après de mauvais départs. Espérons que tous trois confirmeront ces bons résultats le week-end prochain à Ernée, devant le public français »
Second podium this season for Steven
Second at a sunny British GP, round seven of fifteen in the Motocross World Championship, Steven Frossard consolidated his standings in the series while Gregory Aranda, one of the youngest participants involved in the MX1 World Championship scored another top ten result.
For the second year in a row the FIM competition visited Mallory Park; home of the British Grand Prix. Built alongside the circuit usually used for car and bike racing, the track has been improved since last year but remains a difficult one with fast, spectacular and technical sections.
Third during the MX2 qualifying race on Saturday, Steven had a good pick on the gate. Steven’s start was in the first pack, and it took him half of the race to join Paulin; this battle was one of the rare periods of action in this race and when Gautier made a mistake, during the fourteenth of twenty laps he opened the ‘door’ for his ‘green’ teammate who finished as runner-up. Steven probably made one of his best starts of the season during the second race. Running second behind Gonçalves on the first lap he pushed hard and reduced the gap to nothing, but never found a place to pass and lost his rhythm. Hounded by Musquin for almost twenty minutes, Steven was eventually demoted and collected fourth position.. Loic Rombaut never enjoyed good starts in Great Britain, and experienced another race in the middle of the pack where each point counted and are hotly contested; twice twentieth, the CLS rider added two other points to his total.
Fifth in his qualifying race Gregory Aranda had a tough job, as he started in seventeenth place in moto one! But he produced a consistent race, coming back in the top ten with a ninth place. He improved a lot his second start and took seventh position; Greg stayed in the same slot for half of the race but he couldn’t resist the comeback of Cairoli and Leok during the last ten minutes. Twice ninth, he finished also ninth of the GP and is now fifteenth in the standings
Steven Frossard: “My start was pretty good in the first race, but I lost too much time to pass some other riders and when I took second Marvin was too far away. I pushed hard to reduce the gap but that was not enough laps. In the second heat I came back on Gonçalves and wanted to apply some pressure, but I couldn’t find a place to pass him. I lost my rhythm, then made a mistake and Marvin overtook me. This is my second podium of the season but that’s not enough for me, and now I am getting impatient for my first GP win.”
Loic Rombaut: “I scored one point in each race and with a bad pick on the gate it’s difficult to make a good start! Yesterday I took the second bike for the pre-qualifying session, but I got an average result. Today during the first heat I was eighteenth for several laps with three riders in front of me, but I make a mistake and only scored one point instead of four or five. I had a bad start in the second heat and then we did the entire race together with Larrieu to finish nineteenth and twentieth.”
Gregory Aranda: “I had good speed during the first heat, I posted the third fastest lap but after a start in eighteenth position it was difficult to do better than ninth. My second start was better, I was seventh but in the last ten minutes I couldn’t keep the rhythm and both Cairoli and Leok passed me. It was a good weekend overall, yesterday the track was perfect and I was the only rider to jump one section; but they changed it for the race. It’s a pity that the track had mainly one line due to the watering, it was so nice during the first practice session.”
Jean Jacques Luisetti: “We’re of course delighted with Steven’s podium, and he has scored strong results for three GPs now. In the second heat we thought that he could pass Goncalves, but he slowed down for a few minutes and Musquin passed him. He did two strong races and we’ll continue to work on the technical side and his physical condition to collect more podiums, a first GP win and come back in the top three of the series. Greg twice scored a top ten result with good lap-times; he is on a positive way while Loic twice gained one point despite bad starts. Let’s hope that all of them will continue these results next week in Ernée.”
