Week end difficile pour les pilotes CLS à Valkenswaard
Avec seulement quelques points dans une manche pour Steven Frossard le team CLS ne gardera pas un souvenir inoubliable du quatrième GP de la saison, et regarde déjà vers la tournée Ibérique (Portugal et Espagne) d’où il espère ramener d’autres résultats plus probants.
Il y a eu énormément de chutes ce week-end sur ce sable à la fois sec et glissant de Valkenswaard, qui joua quelques tours aux pilotes CLS qui allèrent tous au sol à plusieurs reprises ce week-end. Ainsi samedi Steven, Loic et Gregory chutèrent tous au départ de leur course qualificative, compliquant encore un peu plus ces courses qui n’étaient déjà pas simples du fait qu’elles se disputaient dans le sable ! Steven signa le meilleur résultat du trio avec une maigre dix septième place en MX2, pendant que Loic victime de plusieurs chutes se classait lui trente deuxième ; Gregory de son côté héritait de la vingt troisième grille en MX1.
Ni Steven ni Loic n’allaient voir l’arrivée de la première manche MX2, chutant à plusieurs reprises mais rentrant intègres physiquement, au contraire de Greg qui se blessait à la cheville. Treizième au milieu d’un paquet de bons pilotes de sable il chutait au cinquième tour, et rentrait lui aussi au parc avant le terme de la course. La piste était encore plus défoncée en seconde manche mais c’est paradoxalement dans ces conditions que le team sauvait quelques points ! Ne prenant aucun risque au départ pour éviter toute chute, Steven fit une course sage et décroche une douzième place, alors que Loic qui évoluait à la lisière des points en début de course se classe vingt quatrième après avoir chuté en course. Greg de son côté prenait le départ de la seconde manche mais rentrait bien vite au parc souffrant trop de sa cheville.
Le team sera à Plomion (Aisne) ce 1er mai, dans le cadre de la quatrième épreuve du championnat de France Elite.
Steven Frossard : ‘ Mon week-end avait mal commencé puisque au départ de la manche qualificative je suis tombé au départ ; je suis remonté en dix septième position, mais sur un tel circuit la place sur la grille était prépondérante. Au premier départ je suis tombé dans le second virage, et je me suis élancé en dernière position. Je suis revenu à la lisière des points, mais je n’avais plus d’énergie car j’ai traîné une rino pharyngite cette semaine et je suis rentré au paddock avant la fin. En seconde manche je n’ai pris aucun risque au départ, j’ai viré en vingtième position et je suis remonté onzième, en prenant garde de ne pas faire d’erreurs’
Gregory Aranda : ‘ Comme à chaque fois dans le sable ce fut un peu difficile, des résultats moyens samedi aux essais comme en manche qualificative ou je suis tombé au départ. C’était la première d’une longue série puisque ce matin au warm up je suis également tombé, de même qu’en première manche ; j’étais quatorzième derrière De Dycker, je suivais ces trajectoires qui sont très particulières et je me suis fait éjecter de la moto. Je me suis fait une entorse à la cheville, mais je suis quand même parti en seconde manche ou j’étais un moment quatorzième avant de m’arrêter’
Loic Rombaut : ‘ Pas mal de chutes pour moi ce week-end, soit tout seul soit avec d’autres pilotes et dans ces conditions pas facile de faire de bons résultats sur ce type de circuit. C’est finalement en dernière manche que je me suis fait le plus plaisir, ce qui confirme que je manque encore de roulage sur ces circuits sablonneux. En première manche je suis rentré quand les leaders sont revenus sur moi, on me présentait les drapeaux bleus et dans ces conditions tu n’arrives plus à te concentrer sur ta course. La seconde manche a mieux débuté puisque j’étais vingt deuxième en début de course, mais je me suis retrouvé trentième après une chute pour finalement revenir vingt quatrième’
Jean Jacques Luisetti: ‘Nous savions que ce week-end serait difficile, dans la mesure où le sable n’est pas revêtement naturel pour nos pilotes qui sont plus habitués aux circuits du Sud. Mais on espérait beaucoup mieux en matière de résultats, surtout en présence des responsables Japonais de Kawasaki, et j’espère qu’ils vont réagir dès vendredi lors du championnat de France Elite, puis au Portugal dans deux semaines. Steven était malade cette semaine mais cela n’explique pas tout, et j’attends de nos pilotes qu’ils travaillent aussi dur qu’ont pu le faire les mécaniciens pour préparer ce Grand Prix’
Mixed results for team CLS in Valkenswaard
Scoring only points in one heat with Steven Frossard, team CLS will not keep a great memory from the fourth round of the series and is already looking to the Spanish tour (Portugal and Spain) to reach some strong results in the 2009 World Championships.
There were a lot of crashes this week-end on the dry and slippery sand of Valkenswaard, and none of the CLS riders could avoid several one’s during the weekend. On Saturday Steven Frossard, Loic Rombaut and Gregory Aranda all crashed at the start of their qualifying races, making their races even worse than it was already on a sandy surface! Steven got the best result with a seventeenth position, while Loic Rombaut finished thirty-second of the MX2 class after several race incidents; Gregory Aranda collected a twenty third position on the MX1 gate.
Both Steven and Loic retired after several crashes in the opening MX2 race, and in the MX1 it was similar; in thirteenth position among a strong field of riders Greg fell on the fifth lap, damaging his ankle and coming back to the pits. The track was worst for the second race but it brings at least some points for the team, as Steven didn’t took any risks at the start to avoid another crash; then he rode safely to secure some points with a twelfth position while Loic Rombaut ended twenty-fourth despite several more spills. Gregory tried to race in the second MX1 moto, but retired with a sore ankle.
Steven Frossard: ‘My weekend didn’t start well, as I crashed on Saturday at the start of the qualifying race; I came back to seventeenth but on this track it was important to have an inside gate. In the first moto I crashed in the second corner and I restarted my race far behind the pack. I returned close to the points but I had no energy, as I was ill all week long and couldn’t prepare for this event in my usual way and I retired. I didn’t take any risks at the second start; I was twentieth and rode carefully to score at least ten points.’
Gregory Aranda: ‘As always in the sand it was pretty difficult for me. I had average results during the practice sessions on Saturday and crashed at the start of my qualifying race. It was the first of a long series as I crashed also during the warm-up and then during the first race. I was fourteenth and took the same lines as De Dycker, but I realized that only he can ride like that and then I went down. I twisted my ankle. I tried to race the second moto but that wasn’t possible.’
Loic Rombaut: ‘I crashed several times this weekend, alone or with other riders and that was not the best way to get good results on such a difficult track. Finally, during the last race I had my best feeling with the track and that confirmed that I need more experience on sandy surfaces. During the first heat I stopped when the leaders passed me, the marshals showed me the blue flags and it was difficult to stay focused. I was twenty-second in the next heat when I crashed, I recovered to come back to twenty-fourth. Finally I preferred the track when it was rougher at the end of the day.’
Jean Jacques Luisetti: ‘We knew that this weekend would be difficult as sand is not a natural surface for our southern riders! But we expected better than what they achieved, and I hope that they will react next weekend during the French championship and later in Portugal for the fifth round of the series. Steven was ill during the week, but that’s not enough to explain his performance and I wish in the future that our riders will work as hard as our mechanics did to prepare for this Grand Prix.’
