Un nouveau podium de manche pour Steven
Organisé à Ernée cadre du Motocross des Nations 2005, le Grand Prix de France a été un énorme succès avec la plus grosse affluence de la saison – 38000 spectateurs – et une ambiance incroyable avec tous ces fans encourageant à tue tête les pilotes Français dans ce théâtre de verdure. Ces mêmes fans sont rentrés chez eux heureux de la performance d’ensemble des pilotes tricolores, les membres du team CLS réussissant tous une bonne manche sur deux.
Depuis le dernier GP organisé ici en 2006 la piste a été modifiée avec l’ajout de plusieurs sauts et obstacles que les pilotes découvrirent samedi sous un beau soleil. Steven Frossard assura un bon résultat en qualification, terminant dauphin de Musquin alors que Loic Rombaut se classait dix neuvième. Dimanche le temps restait agréable jusqu’au tour de reconnaissance, la météo changeant subitement avec une grosse averse juste avant le départ de la première manche MX2. De suite la piste devint glissante et boueuse, rendant le départ encore plus primordial ! Les positions au premier tour furent plus ou moins les mêmes qu’à l’arrivée, du fait qu’une seule trajectoire devint rapidement meilleure que les autres ; parti troisième Steven se classera troisième, alors que pour la première fois de la saison Loic fera toute sa manche dans le top dix, obtenant son meilleur résultat en GP avec une excellente septième place. Pour la seconde manche le temps s’était remis et la piste était plus praticable, permettant les dépassements ; une bonne affaire pour Steven dernier après une chute au départ et quatorzième à l’arrivée, alors que Loic ajoutait deux points à son bilan du week-end avec une dix neuvième place.
Gregory Aranda se fit particulièrement plaisir samedi sur cette piste typée Supercross, décrochant les second et quatrième temps des deux séances d’essais avant d’obtenir la cinquième place en course, se battant avec Coppins et Mackenzie. Malgré un mauvais départ en première manche il était revenu en dixième position quand un attardé ruina sa course, lui coupant la trajectoire dans une côte. Obligé de mettre pied à terre Greg perdait beaucoup de temps à repartir, se classant quinzième. Revenu à nouveau dixième en seconde manche il dut malheureusement abandonner, après avoir chuté assez fort en fin de course lors d’une tentative de dépassement.
Steven Frossard : ‘En première manche je suis bien parti, ce qui m’a permis de finir troisième sur un circuit très glissant après l’averse du départ. En début de manche je suis revenu sur Anthony, mais je recevais des projections et j’ai préféré assurer cette troisième place d’autant que je savais que Guarneri était loin derrière. Je suis moyennement sorti de la grille en seconde manche, et dans le troisième virage je me suis fait bousculer en dehors de la piste, me faisant mal à l’épaule en chutant. Je suis quand même revenu quatorzième en repartant dernier. Globalement je suis déçu du résultat, j’aurais vraiment aimé être sur le podium mais compte tenu des conditions il n’y avait pas grand-chose à faire en ratant le second départ’
Gregory Aranda : ‘ Hier le circuit était top et je me sentais bien, je fais une bonne qualification en revenant cinquième mais aujourd’hui il en était tout autrement car la pluie a tout gâché. En première manche tout le monde se suivait plus ou moins, je suis revenu neuvième avant qu’un attardé ne me gêne et me fasse chuter dans une montée. J’ai perdu beaucoup de temps à repartir, je reviens quinzième en passant Mackenzie dans le dernier tour. Mon second départ fut moyen, je suis revenu dixième sans prendre de risques jusqu’à ce que je chute ; je roulais derrière Dougan, je n’ai pas vu une pierre et j’ai chuté assez fort. J’étais trop sonné pour continuer’
Jean Jacques Luisetti : ‘ Très content de la première manche de Steven, il avait repris pas mal de points mais ce bénéfice a été perdu par la chute au second départ, quand il s’est fait percuter. Il est reparti attardé et il n’a pu remonter mieux que quatorzième, limitant la casse vis-à-vis de ses rivaux directs au championnat. Greg nous a prouvé en qualification qu’il avait franchi un nouveau pas, son dimanche a été un peu plus difficile en raison de la boue et de chutes. Loic nous a fait une première manche extraordinaire en tenant tête à Paulin et Aubin, il a un peu payé ses efforts en seconde d’autant qu’il a pris un départ très moyen’
Steven claimed another heat podium
Organized in Ernée, home of the 2005 Motocross of Nations, the French Grand Prix has been a huge success with the biggest attendance of the season – 38000 spectators – and a great atmosphere with all the fans cheering the local riders in the scenic French valley. The same fans went back home happy after a double French win – in the Women’s and MX2 classes – and a great performance in the MX2 class with four riders in top of the classification, and seven representatives in the top nine overall.
Since the last GP in 2006 the track had been improved with several new jumps, and all the riders discovered the new sections on Saturday under a blue sky. Steven Frossard scored a strong result in the qualifying race, with a second position behind Musquin. The weather remained pleasant on Sunday during the sighting lap, but heavy showers changed everything a few minutes before the start as the track came muddy and slippery. With these conditions the positions at the start and around the first turns more or less determined the classification, as there was mainly one good line; Steven started in third position and finished third, while Loic Rombaut got a fantastic seventh position; for the first time this season Loic completed the entire race in the top ten, scoring his best ever GP result. The weather was perfect for the second heat, but the track was even more difficult with many ruts. Steven had a disastrous start, as he was pushed over the barriers in the third corner. This time there were more lines on the track and he could pass several rivals to improve his ranking; Steven made a great performance as he started in last position and finished fourteenth, while Loic Rombaut added two more points to his tally for the day with a nineteenth place.
Gregory Aranda enjoyed the track during the qualifying session and was second and fourth in the free and pre-qualifying practice sessions. Greg qualified with fifth position in the Heat battling with Coppins and Mackenzie. Despite a bad start he came to tenth, when a lapper crossed his line in an uphill section and forced him to stop; losing time to recover, Greg finished fifteenth. In the second heat once more Greg worked up to tenth position, but he crashed in one of the last circulations while trying to pass for ninth.
Steven Frossard: ‘ I got a good start in the opening race and that was necessary to obtain a good result as the track was slippery due to the showers. I came back close to Boissière, but I got mud in my goggles so I decided to secure third position rather than take any risks; I knew that Guarneri was far behind. My second was average, but in the third corner another rider pushed me out of the track and I crashed and landed on my shoulder. I came back from last to fourteenth. Honestly, I was expecting a podium here but with the track conditions it was impossible to come back strongly in the second race.’
Gregory Aranda: ‘On Saturday the track was perfect and I made a strong performance in the qualifying heat with fifth position, but today was totally different with the rain. In the first heat there was not so much action as the riders followed the others, I came back to ninth but a backmarker didn’t move on an uphill and I crashed. I lost several minutes, and then came back to fifteenth as I passed Mackenzie in the last corner. My second start was average; I returned to tenth behind Dougan but didn’t saw a stone on a landing and crashed pretty hard, enough to put me out.’
Jean Jacques Luisetti: ‘Steven was strong in the opening race, he scored much more points than his championship rivals but he lost this advantage when another rider pushed him out at the start of the second race. He was far behind and came back to fourteenth, that’s not so bad for the standings. Greg proved in the qualifying session that he reaches another step, but on Sunday it was more difficult with the mud and he had a crash in each race. Loic had an amazing first race, he was faster than Paulin and Aubin both of whom never caught him; his second race was tougher, with a bad start.’
