Gregory Aranda de retour dans le top dix
Le Grand Prix de République Tchèque organisé sur le circuit de Loket est un rendez vous régulier du Mondial, depuis maintenant plusieurs années. Situé à 100 kilomètres de Prague, c’est un circuit traditionnel ou la majorité des pilotes se plaint des problèmes d’adhérence sur une surface caillouteuse ; avec une seule trajectoire rapide en de nombreux endroits, un bon départ est primordial ici.
Après son difficile week-end en Belgique Grégory Aranda était content de revenir sur un sol dur, et dès les qualifications il confirma son aptitude sur ce type de terrain avec une probante cinquième place en qualification. Cela fut un peu plus compliqué pour lui dimanche, puisqu’après s’être immiscé dès le départ dans le top ten il ne parvint pas à gagner de places. Alignant de bons chronos et bataillant avec des pilotes comme Cairoli, Ramon et De Dycker, Greg se classera neuvième de chaque manche, égalant ses meilleurs résultats de la saison décrochés au Portugal et en Grande Bretagne.
Steven Frossard a lui aussi produit deux solides courses à Loket, mais le leader du team MX2 fut plutôt malchanceux en première manche. Qualifié en quatrième position, Steven virait lui aussi dans le top ten au premier départ et arrivait très vite en cinquième position. Suivant de près Aubin et Musquin il fut victime d’un rarissime incident quand ses rivaux heurtèrent une barrière et déplacèrent un panneau publicitaire sur sa trajectoire ! Chutant il fut contraint à l’abandon, moto endommagée. Son second départ ne fut pas si bon, et Steven eut bien du mal à revenir de la dix neuvième à la onzième place sur ce circuit. Son équipier Loic Rombaut eut lui des soucis à chaque départ ; pris dans une chute collective au premier, il tapera la grille au second mais parviendra à aller chercher le point de la vingtième place.
Le championnat se poursuivra à la fin du mois, avec l’avant dernier GP organisé les 29-30 août à Lierop (Pays Bas)
Gregory Aranda : ‘J’ai bien commencé samedi avec de bons chronos et une bonne course qualificative, et dimanche j’ai continué avec deux manches dans le top ten. Je suis parti à chaque fois dans les dix et j’y suis resté ; je n’ai pas gagné beaucoup de places mais ici c’est toujours difficile de doubler, et devant moi il n’y avait que des pilotes d’usine. En première manche j’ai eu un peu de mal en fin de course car j’avais laissé tomber les lunettes, en seconde j’ai fait toute la course avec De Dycker. Après Lommel je suis content de faire deux top dix ce week-end, là je vais faire une pige en Supercross à La Tremblade avant de remonter en Belgique pour préparer Lierop.’
Steven Frossard : ‘Je suis pas mal parti en première manche, et je revenais sur le groupe de tête quand un panneau de publicité m’a fait chuter. Aubin et Musquin étaient en bagarre devant moi, et ils ont du toucher les barrières supportant le panneau qui m’a fait tomber. La moto étant endommagée, ma course était terminée. Le second départ fut moins bon, je suis revenu de la dix septième à la onzième place sur un terrain ou il est impossible de doubler ! C’est vraiment limite pour un GP, car si tu ne pars pas dans les cinq tu n’as aucune chance. Maintenant je repars en Belgique, pour trois semaines d’entraînement dans le sable afin de préparer Lierop.’
Loic Rombaut : ‘Samedi on a eu quelques soucis avec la moto, mais aujourd’hui cela allait beaucoup mieux. J’étais mal placé sur la grille mais je ne suis pas trop mal parti en première manche, avant d’être pris dans un accrochage ; de dernier je suis revenu vingt deuxième, sur un circuit ou il est toujours difficile de doubler. Au second départ j’ai tapé dans la grille, ensuite je me suis faufilé du mieux que j’ai pu pour revenir vingtième. Comme Greg je vais aller faire du Supercross le week-end prochain à La Tremblade, puis je repartirais en Belgique pour préparer Lierop qui sera mon dernier GP puisque je n’irais pas au Brésil.’
Jean Jacques Luisetti: ‘Je suis content de la réaction des pilotes, qui ont certes connu des fortunes diverses mais ont fait preuve de bonnes choses. Steven a retrouvé vitesse et moral, c’était encore l’un des plus rapides en course même s’il n’a pas eu de réussite en première manche ou il se battait dans le top cinq. Greg a bien redressé la barre avec deux top dix, Loic a été un peu en retrait mais ses mauvais départs y sont pour beaucoup. Il faut continuer à travailler, se fixer des règles strictes pour continuer à franchir les étapes menant au plus haut niveau, car chacun sait que les derniers échelons sont les plus difficiles à franchir.’
Gregory Aranda back in the top ten
The Grand Prix of Czech Republic at the circuit of Loket is a regular fixture on the Motocross World Championship calendar for many years now. Located 100 kilometers from Prague, Loket is an ‘old style’ natural circuit where most of the riders struggled with varying grip levels on the stony layout; with mainly one line on this fast track a good start was essential in order to collect decent results.
After a difficult weekend in Belgium, Gregory Aranda was pleased to be back on a hard track and he confirmed with fifth place in the qualifying race his ability on this surface. Sunday was a little bit harder for the French youngster who twice breached the top ten at the start but then was unable to improve his standing. Posting good lap-times and battling with Cairoli, Ramon and De Dycker, Greg finished in ninth position twice; therefore equalling his best result of the season gained in Portugal and Great Britain.
Steven Frossard also produced strong races in Loket, but the CLS MX2 rider was unlucky during the opening affair. Qualifying in fourth position, Steven was also in the top ten at the first start but was decisive in the formative stages to promptly arrive to fifth. Following Aubin and Musquin he was the victim of a race incident when his rivals hit a barrier and sent an advertising panel onto his line. He crashed and retired, as his bike was damaged during the incident. The second start was not as good and Steven had some trouble to move from nineteenth to eleventh through the pack. Teammate Loic Rombaut experienced drama in both starts; involved in a first corner pile-up in moto one, he then prematurely hit the gate later on but made his way to score one point with twentieth place.
The World Championship will continue at the end of this month, with the fourteenth of fifteenth rounds organized at Lierop (The Netherlands) on August 29th-30th.
Gregory Aranda: ‘I posted fast lap-times and then had a good qualifying race on Saturday, and on Sunday finished twice in the top ten so it’s good after Lommel. Twice I was in the top ten at the start and I kept my positions; I didn’t manage to get further forward, but here in Loket it’s always difficult to pass especially when you follow factory riders. I took off my goggles in the first heat and the last laps were not easy, then in the second one I raced with De Dycker for thirty minutes. Now I will race a Supercross next weekend and then go back to Belgium in order to prepare for Lierop.’
Steven Frossard: ‘My first start was pretty good and I was coming up to the leading group when I hit an advertising panel and crashed. Aubin and Musquin were fighting right in front of me and they hit the fences that supported the panel and moved it on my line; the bike was damaged and I was forced to retire. My second start was worse, I came back from seventeenth to eleventh but it’ so difficult to pass here. Now I go back to Belgium and for three weeks I will train hard in the sand to prepare Lierop.’
Loic Rombaut: ‘On Saturday we had some trouble with the bike but for the race it was OK. I was on the outside of the grid and at the first start I was involved in a crash; I came back from last to twenty second; it is never easy to pass in Loket. I hit the gate at the second start but found my way inside the pack to finish twentieth. I will go with Greg to race a Supercross event next weekend and then will go back in Belgium to prepare for Lierop, my last GP this season.’
Jean Jacques Luisetti: ‘I’m happy to see that all our riders reacted after Lommel, even if they had mixed fortunes here. Steven was again strong mentally and he was fast during the first heat, but he was pretty unlucky while battling in the top five. Greg twice posted a top ten result and we know that this is his natural position now. Loic was not as strong but he got two bad starts. Now everyone must continue to work hard, they need to have strict rules if they want to reach their goals.’
