Considéré comme l’un des circuits les plus vicieux avec une surface constituée de nombreux petits graviers glissants, Uddevalla est une piste que peu de pilotes apprécient, surtout quand la pluie s’en mêle comme ce fut le cas dimanche. Privilégiant en de nombreux points une seule et unique trajectoire, ce circuit situé dans un site magnifique nécessite impérativement un bon départ pour pouvoir tirer son épingle du jeu.

La séance qualificative n’était qu’une formalité pour Steven, qui assurait sous un soleil magnifique une bonne troisième place dans sa série derrière Rattray et Simpson. Les choses furent plus compliquées pour Gregory, qui arrachera sa qualification dans le dernier tour de course. Les conditions étaient bien différentes dimanche puisque la pluie s’était invitée dans la nuit, ce qui ne gêna pas outre mesure Greg auteur du meilleur temps au warm up.

Sortant dans le bon paquet au premier départ Steven va bien vite se retrouver en troisième position derrière les KTM de Simpson et Rattray, avec Searle et Cairoli à ses trousses. Tenant sa place durant treize des vingt et un tours, il finira par céder aux attaques du champion en titre qui ira s’emparer de la seconde place au détriment de Simpson. Un peu en difficulté en fin de manche, ce dernier ne sauvera sa troisième place qu’en raison du bris de l’échappement de Steven, trop handicapé côté puissance moteur pour porter une attaque. Quatrième de la manche, Steven allait rater son second départ et ce n’est qu’en se faufilant habilement qu’il pointera neuvième au premier passage. Eprouvant d’énormes difficultés à doubler sur ce circuit mono-trajectoire, luttant contre les projections de boue des rivaux, Steven gagnera deux places mais ne pourra jamais attaquer Tarroux et Goncalves. Auteur d’une première manche ‘transparente’ avec un départ raté et une course marquée par une chute, Gregory va retrouver de bien meilleures sensations en seconde manche. Douzième en début de course, il va tenir un bon rythme toute la manche durant pour accrocher une bonne dixième place, bienvenue après trois abandons successifs ! Tout le monde va maintenant prendre une bonne semaine de repos, avant d’embarquer dans une dizaine de jours pour Nelspruit (Afrique du Sud) ou se disputera la dixième épreuve du championnat.

Steven Frossard : ‘ En première manche j’ai longtemps été troisième, avant que Cairoli ne me double. J’attendais les deux-trois derniers tours pour attaquer Simpson, mais à quatre tours de l’arrivée mon échappement a cassé et j’ai perdu de la puissance moteur, ce qui m’a poussé à assurer ma quatrième place. Mon second départ fut moins bon, je suis revenu de la douzième à la septième place derrière Tarroux et Gonçalves mais je n’ai jamais pu les doubler avec les projections de boue. Je suis un peu déçu de ma seconde manche, j’aurais aimé me battre à nouveau avec Cairoli et Rattray, mais je prends la cinquième place du GP et c’est pas mal. Maintenant j’espère bien faire d’autres podiums, voir de gagner une manche avec un bon départ, je sais que notre matériel est performant vis-à-vis de nos rivaux’

 

 

Gregory Aranda : ‘Ce fut un week-end moyen, mais toutefois bien meilleur que l’Allemagne. Dans l’ensemble j’ai fait de bons chronos en piste, mais j’ai raté ma manche qualificative ou je suis mal parti sans pouvoir ensuite prendre un bon rythme. Dimanche matin je fais la pôle au warm-up, c’est toujours bon pour le moral ! En première manche je suis très mal parti de l’extérieur, j’ai chuté, puis jeté mes lunettes et reçu de la boue dans les yeux et j’ai fini par m’arrêter. En seconde manche j’avais un meilleur rythme, je pars quatorzième et je reviens dixième’

 

Jean Jacques Luisetti : ‘Greg a eu une première manche difficile, mais on a vu un regain de forme avec une très belle dixième place en seconde manche. Il n’est pas dans les quinze premiers du Mondial et n’est donc pas invité d’office en Afrique du Sud, mais au vu de ses bonnes performances passées nous avons décidé qu’il irait là bas avec Steven. En ce qui concerne  Steven  je suis à la fois content et déçu, on avait déjà pris gout au podium ! Il a fait de très belles courses sur un terrain à tendance sablonneuse qui n’est pas à son avantage, il fait encore un top cinq au terme de très belles courses avec notamment une première manche ou il se bat au milieu des pilotes d’usine. Je compte bien évidemment sur Kawasaki pour nous donner les moyens techniques et financiers de le garder avec nous la saison prochaine, car il a incontestablement le potentiel pour jouer le podium l’an prochain. En ce qui concerne Loic Larrieu c’est un petit miracle qu’il ait pu rouler en Hollande, il a fait un excellent second temps chrono samedi et a eu un peu moins de réussite en course puisqu’il casse une roue en première manche alors qu’il était second, avant de terminer douzième de la seconde manche avec une épaule douloureuse’

 

Thierry Chizat Suzzoni : ‘C’est encore un bon week-end pour Steven, même si on aurait tendance à faire la fine bouche après son podium en Allemagne ! Il a une nouvelle fois prouvé en première manche qu’il avait la vitesse pour rivaliser avec les meilleurs pilotes de la catégorie ; dommage qu’en seconde manche il ait perdu le contact lors du départ car il avait sa place dans le top cinq. Gregory a bien rebondit après son difficile GP d’Allemagne, il a fait un top dix en seconde manche tout à fait conforme à ce que nous attendons de lui désormais’

NINTH ROUND OF THE MX2 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP IN SWEDEN

 

Steven Frossard confirmed!

 

Just a week after his first GP podium in Germany, Steven Frossard confirmed his great potential by scoring a fifth place during the Swedish round of the World Championship. Tenth of the second heat, Gregory Aranda is back to his rank after three tough races.

 

 

During his qualifying race Steven confirmed his ability on the tight and slippery layout, scoring a third place behind Rattray and Simpson. That was not as easy in the other race for Gregory, who just secured his qualification in the last lap with a twelfth position. Both qualifying sessions took place on a sunny track, but things were different on Sunday as nightly showers changed the race conditions.

Steven got a great start in the opening race, coming third behind the KTM of Simpson and Rattray. He kept the pace with the leaders during half of the race, and then was passed by reigning World Champion Cairoli who then passed Simpson to finish second. In the last ten minutes Steven came closer to Simpson and was ready to attack him when he broke his pipe and lost power. Finally fourth, Steven did not have such a good start in the second race but he made his way inside the pack to come ninth after one lap. The track was damaged after the rain and with mud projections it was difficult to pass, but Steven earned two more ranks and then could only follow Tarroux and Goncalves who didn’t do any mistakes. Seventh of the heat, he finished fifth overall and claimed the tenth position in the standings. Gregory never recovered from a bad start in the opening moto and finally retired with mud in the eyes, but after a better start in the next one he did a strong race to finish tenth with good lap times. All the staff will now have a short break, before moving in ten days to Nelspruit (South Africa) for the tenth round of the championship.

 

 

Steven Frossard: ‘I was third for a long time in the first race, but then Cairoli passed me. I was waiting the last two or three laps to pass Simpson, but four laps before the end of the race my pipe broke and I lost power. The bike was noisy and then my goal was just to save my fourth position. My second start was not as good as the previous one, but I came back from twelfth to seventh; I had the speed to pass Tarroux and Gonçalves, but I didn’t found the place to do it and struggled with the mud that they sent. I’m a little bit disappointed with my second heat, my goal was to battle once more with Cairoli and Rattray but fifth of the event is not so bad. Now I expect to get some other podiums, may be one heat win with a good start as I know that I have the bike to do it’

 

 

Gregory Aranda: ‘It was an average weekend, in fact much better than Germany. I had some good lap times in practice, but my qualifying race was not good as I got a bad start and never took a good rhythm. Sunday morning I posted the fastest lap during the warm up, that’s always good mentally! My first race was disappointing, I had a bad start, later crashed and then took off my goggles and got mud in the eyes. My second race was much better, I had a strong rhythm after a decent start and I battled with Van Horebeek and Guarneri to beat both of them and score a tenth position’

 

Jean Jacques Luisetti: ‘Greg had a difficult first race, but recovered for the next one and scored a strong tenth position. He is not in the top fifteen in the standings and didn’t get support from the promoter for the trip to South Africa, but we’ve decided that he will go alongside Steven. We have mixed feelings with the fifth place of Steven, for sure that’s another good performance but we love so much the podiums! There was more sand than usual on this track and it’s not so good for us, but Steven was fast and consistent with a great opening race among the factory riders. For sure I expect that Kawasaki will give us technical and financial support to keep him in the team, he is a podium contender and several teams already approached him for next season. Despite his shoulder injury Loic Larrieu was in the Netherlands for the European series, he posted the second time in his qualifying group but then was less successful in the races. He was second in the first race when his wheel broke, and then save some points with a twelfth place despite a painful shoulder’

 

Thierry Chizat Suzzoni: ‘It’s another good week-end for Steven, even if we always look for a podium now after Germany! He proved once more during the first race that he has the speed to battle with the top riders of the class, and missed another top result in the second race with an average start. Gregory recovered pretty well after his disappointing German GP, his second race is exactly what we expect from him’
